OnePlus 5T A5010 Review – Enhanced Version of 1+5

There are countless brands in the smartphone industry, but the one that has left a long lasting impression and mounting sale rates in no time, is OnePlus. According to statistics, One Plus is believed to be one of the most popular brands around the world. With the successful launch of OnePlus 5 (OP5), the makers are looking forward to launch an enhanced version, OnePlus 5T (OP5T) . This model is launched for the first time, close to full screen designs. We will review and help you with the new “OnePlus 5T” discussing its features and improvements.

OP5T, is the enhanced version of OP5. Sharing the same metal feel and 3-segment switch buttons, about 80% of their features are similar. Both the models are made up of similar materials and exhibit the same look and feel, although the size is slightly different.

The OP5T possess a full screen of 6.01 inches, which is different from the OP5 that has a 5.5 inch screen. The body of both the phones does not look very different with only a slight elongation in OP5T vertically. This feature makes both the phones easy to manage with accurate hand control. Compared to the 16:9 screen of the OP5, the OP5T will always have a certain advantage. When browsing files, web pages or even content in an APP, it can display more, making it easier for the users. Moreover, the fingerprint reader in OP5 is placed on the front of device and in OP5T it is found above the OnePlus logo.

Although OP5T has a longer body, the size is not too different. This makes the one-handed control easy and not very different from that of OP5. But the protective cases of the two phones can’t be same due to different screen lengths. While dual-card dual standby is supported, OP5 does not support storage space expansion with microSD memory cards, therefore a model with 128GB memory was introduced. USB-C slot and 3.5mm headphone jack are present in both the models. NFC function for Android Pay and face recognition for unlocking are two distinct features in OP5T. Although the android native interface is still consistent, a few changes in the font style are witnessed.

A new “OnePlus Black” font is introduced which is quite similar to Noto sans font. Another major difference between the OP5T and the OP5 is that it incorporates the face recognition unlock function. As long as the face is verified in the mobile phone, one can unlock it in less than a second by aiming the OP5T at their faces.  Even though it is just a 2-D function, the unlocking speed is quite fast. But every technology comes with a compromise. While choosing the speed you may trade away your security. A face can easily be used to unlock the screen and is not suitable for saving login credentials and payment passwords. Also not recognizable in dim light, the phone therefore has a fingerprint reader, to serve your day (or night).

Coming to the screen quality, it is quite incredible with features like flexible color temperature, full-screen design, 18:9 aspect ratio, 1080p resolution and AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) used as the material. The OP5 shows sharp and high viewing angles, but the disadvantage of a cooler color temperature are still there. Fortunately, the display mode setting is the same in both the phones. You can select between RGB or go for a more accurate option like DCI-P3.

The AMOLED screen provides an excellent quality and sharp text display, accompanied with naturally high viewing angle and no discoloration and darkening from the sides. It is also worth revealing that the screens of the OP5T support HDR technology. But the availability of relevant content depends on the release, which is not decided yet.

Talking about the camera quality, it is quite normal. The OP5T uses the same dual-lens design as that of OP5. The two cameras have the same image quality, 16 MP for the main lens and 20 MP for the sub-lens, but the sub-lens for the enhanced version of the OP5T has a maximum aperture of F/2.6. The advantage of such configuration has enhanced the shooting quality in low light. It is also started that the camera noise will no more affect the picture quality.  Although the OP5T uses the same lens as that of OP5, the sub-lens of the OP5T is larger and wider than the sub-lens of the OP5. The camera interface is still the same as the OP5. As compared with the OP5, OP5T offers advanced phase quality when pictures are snapped in dark environment. The embedded double mirrors can capture shallow depth photos in a light-enriched environment.

In addition to all other double-lens options, OP5T has a dual lens that can capture the depth of the field photos. Another interesting feature is that when shooting in an ultra-low light environment, the lens is used by the main camera turning to shoot with secondary camera. Behind this, the official stated there is existing sub-camera uses the Sony IMX376K CMOS particularly intended to take low-light shooting views.

Among wide relevant features of OnePlus Handset, OP5T gives a guaranteed performance and also compatible with OP5. It is loaded with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 image processing chip, 6/8GB RAM, 64/128GB internal storage, Android 7.1.1 and high capacity 3300mAh battery. With all these in-built specifications, OnePlus 5T is a flexible platform for playing games for long as it never disappoints the player. Even, in the general control, it allows the user to play for more than 10 minutes with high performance without any flaw. As per the conducted test on business evaluation, the device has scored 177,289 points which almost equal to that OnePlus 5. On the other side, the speed result of built-in storage space with AndroBench is 746.78MB/s.

In all the aspects, the OnePlus 5T handset proven to be quite average in performance. Although, this device gives normal quality pictures but is enhanced version of OnePlus 5. It offers excellent full-screen options and color temperature can be adjusted in a manual manner. However, One Plus 5T is a worthy investment if you want to start at a lower price point. Overall, it is completely cost-effective for the purchasers.
